This doctorate disertation describes development of distance learning system based on dialogue. Dialogue is realised by continuous communication and exchange of information between learner and the distance learning system. Dialogue enables monitoring and correcting of the educational process. Analysis of learner process defined actors, their interaction and parameters for estimation of learning process success. Reached comprehensions are used in development of Model for distance learning system based on dialogue. Presented level of information system’s development determinates object-oriented approach as the most suitable for developimng of distance learning system based on dfialogue. ‘Use case’ diagram, package diagram and class diagram based on UML notation, defines formal model of distance learning system based on dialogue. Information system is implemented by using object-relational database ORDBMS ORACLE 8 and JSP technology for generating dynamic Web application. System is verified by storing data for learning process in database and testing system’s behaviour. Distance learning system based on dialogue is modern tool in educational process and increases quality of distance learning. The second chapter presents basic characteristics of the distance learning. Problems connected with development of distance learning systems are described with particulars of the distance learning system based on dialogue. The third chapter presents state of distance learning program inside European Community and examples of application of computers in education. The forth chapter explains educational foundation of distance learning system based on dialogue by structural theory of education, programmed education, cibernetic system for managing of learning process and application algorithms in education. The fifth chapter describes modern approach in development of information systems. Object orientation in development of information system is presented. Also, Web technology for development of dynamical applications and database management systems are presented. The sixth chapter describes aims, functions and concepts for development of distance learning based on dialogue. The seventh chapter describes model of distance learning based on dialogue. Diagrams for presentation of activities in learning process are defines. By many of UML, ‘use case’ diagram, package diagram and class diagram, respectively formal model of system are created. Class diagrams present objects, attributes and operation for presentation of system’s behaviour. The eight chapter demonstrates implementation of distance learning system based on dialogue. Creation of relation database with object view in ORDBMS ORACLE 8 are described with presentation of using of JSP technology in development dynamical Web application for distance learning based on dialogue. The ninth chapter presents verification of distance learning system based on dialogue by demonstration of tables, object types and object views in ORDBMS ORACLE 8. and graphical result of performing Web application for distance learning based on dialogue. The final part presents feasibility of distance learning system based on dialogue and it’s role in education with direction for future development of system.
