Abstract	The research is focused on multiscale methodology application at impact damage modelling of composite structures. Application of multiscale principles on complex composite structures necessitates computationally efficient micromechanical models. Consequently, modelling of composite structures has been in this Thesis performed employing the semi-analytical High Fidelity Generalized Method of Cells (HFGMC) micromechanical model. The application of micromechanical models enables modelling of damage processes and physical phenomena which are specific to fibre reinforced composite structures. Micromechanical damage initiation and progression theories have been employed in this research as to model composite damage and failure modes at the structural scale. The micromechanical damage initiation and damage propagation models have been validated with available experimental results, whereas results of the multiscale methodology have been compared to available experimental results and to the results obtained employing ply level failure theories.The original scientific contribution is:1. The developed multiscale methodology has been applied at relatively large and complex numerical models.2. Validation of the applied micromechanical failure criteria and damage models.3. The study of strain rate problems has been performed in this Thesis by implementation of the modified Bodner-Partom viscoplasticity model into the HFGMC micromechanical model.
Abstract (croatian)	Predmet istraživanja doktorskoga rada bila je primjena višerazinskoga pristupa na numeričko modeliranje udarnih oštećenja kompozitnih konstrukcija. Primjena višerazinskoga pristupa na složene kompozitne konstrukcije zahtijeva veliku računalnu učinkovitost primijenjenih mikromehaničkih modela. U ovom istraživanju korištena je poluanalitička metoda ćelija velike točnosti za modeliranje kompozitnih konstrukcija. Usporedbom kriterija popuštanja kompozitnih materijala s eksperimentalnim podacima zaključeno je da problem predviđanja popuštanja višeslojnih kompozitnih konstrukcija još uvijek nije zadovoljavajuće riješen. Primjena mikromehaničkih modela omogućuje modeliranje procesa oštećenja specifičnih za vlaknima ojačane kompozitne konstrukcije. Mikromehanički modeli inicijacije i propagacije oštećenja validirani su usporedbom s dostupnim eksperimentalnim podacima, a rezultati dobiveni višerazinskom metodologijom uspoređeni su s dostupnim eksperimentalnim podacima kao i s rezultatima dobivenima primjenom kriterija popuštanja kompozitnih materijala postavljenih na razini kompozitnih slojeva. Izvorni znanstveni doprinos: 1) Razvijena višerazinska metodologija primijenjena je na relativno velikim i složenim numeričkim modelima, 2) Validacija primijenjenih mikromehaničkih kriterija popuštanja i modela oštećivanja, 3) U ovom doktorskom radu ostvareno je modeliranje utjecaja povećanih brzina deformacije implementacijom modificiranog Bodner-Partom viskoplastičnoga modela u HFGMC mikromehanički model.
