Abstract
The thesis addresses issues related to absolute (parameterized) Quality of Service (QoS) guarantees for Passive Optical Networks (PON). It focuses on the problem of providing absolute bandwidth, delay and delay variation guarantees based on Service Level Agreements (SLA). Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation (DBA) algorithms are proposed to support all of the mentioned elements of QoS for PONs. Additionally, lower bounds for providing the mentioned guarantees are also formally defined and analyzed. From a networking standpoint, Optical Coding (OC) enabled PONs are investigated as an architecture upgrade to conventional PONs and its implications on DBAs and QoS guarantees are analyzed. DBA algorithms that provide absolute QoS guarantees in this setting are proposed and their boundaries are also formally defined and analyzed.
Abstract (croatian)
Disertacija obrađuje problematiku pružanja potpunih (parametriziranih) jamstava kvalitete usluge (QoS) za pasivne optičke mreže (PON). Fokusirana je na problematiku pružanja potpunih jamstva prijenosne brzine, kašnjenja i kolebanja kašnjenja koja su temeljena na ugovorima o razini usluge (SLA). Predloženi su algoritmi za dinamičko dodjeljivanje pristupa kanalu (DBA) koji podržavaju sve navedene elemente QoS-a za PON-ove. Također, donje granice za pružanje navedenih jamstva su formalno definirane i analizirane. Iz mrežne perspektive, PON-ovi sa elementima za optičko kodiranje (OC) su istraženi kao arhitekturalno unaprjeđenje konvencionalnih PON-ova, te utjecaj tih unaprijeđena na DBA i jamstva QoS-a je analiziran. Također, predloženi su algoritmi za DBA koji pružaju potpuna jamstva QoS-a u ovom okruženju i njihova ograničenja su formalno definirana i analizirana.
