Abstract
Lithium-ion batteries are gradually expanding their use in a wide range of applications, from consumer electronics to electric vehicles and stationary energy storage. This thesis presents a methodology for selecting optimal battery cell for special purpose electric vehicles. Methodology consists of several laboratory testing procedures established to measure the electric and temperature characteristics of the candidate battery types. By evaluation of the experimental test results using the Analytic Hierarchy Process, the most appropriate battery cell is selected. This thesis focuses on derivation and analysis of battery characteristics. Specifically, the energy efficiency of lithium-ion batteries is targeted, which is an important but often overlooked metric that can be used to assess charging and discharging energy losses. A method for obtaining individual one-way charging and discharging efficiencies dependent on the charging/discharging power is presented. A method is based on a solution to an optimization problem, a decomposition of the roundtrip efficiencies into the charging and the discharging efficiency for different power rates, resulting in one-way (charging/discharging) efficiency characteristics. Finally, a novel method for determination of battery capacity actually stored in the battery is presented is well. The method accounts for both the charging and discharging losses in battery use in different operational and ambient conditions.

Litij-ionske baterije postupno proširuju svoju upotrebu u širokom rasponu primjena, od potrošačke elektronike do električnih vozila i stacionarnog skladištenja energije. Osim osobnih automobila, sve je veća potražnja za elektrifikacijom vozila specijalne namjene. Ova se vozila proizvode u malom broju i karakteriziraju ih specifična ograničenjia kao što je ograničena količina za smještaj baterija, specifični radni uvjeti, zahtjevi za napajanjem elektrohidrauličkih sustava itd. Stoga izbor optimalne baterije i identifikacija njezinih potrebnih karakteristika nije jednostavan zadatak. Ovaj rad predstavlja metodologiju odabira optimalne baterijske ćelije za električna vozila posebne namjene. Metodologija se sastoji od nekoliko laboratorijskih ispitnih postupaka uspostavljenih za mjerenje električnih i temperaturnih karakteristika vrste baterija kandidata. Procjenom rezultata eksperimentalnog ispitivanja pomoću analitičkog hijerarhijskog procesa, odabire se najprikladnija baterijska ćelija. Ovaj doktorski rad usmjeren je na izvođenje i analizu karakteristika baterija. Konkretno, ciljana je energetska učinkovitost litij-ionskih baterija, što je važno, ali se često zanemaruje metrika koja se može koristiti za procjenu gubitaka energije pri punjenju i pražnjenju. Ova teza predstavlja metodu za postizanje pojedinačnih jednosmjernih učinkovitosti punjenja i pražnjenja ovisnih o snazi punjenja/pražnjenja. Metoda se temelji na rješenju problema optimizacije, a dekompozicija povratne učinkovitosti na učinkovitost punjenja i pražnjenja različite stope snage, što rezultira jednosmjernim (punjenje/pražnjenje) karakteristikama učinkovitosti. Konačno, nova metoda za određivanje kapaciteta baterije koji je stvarno pohranjen u bateriji je dobra. Metoda uzima u obzir i gubitke punjenja i pražnjenja baterije, korištenje u različitim radnim i ambijentalnim uvjetima. Predložena metoda testirana je u laboratoriju i uspoređena s dvije postojeće osnovne metode pri različitim temperaturama okoline. Rezultati pokazuju da predložena metoda značajno nadmašuje osnovne metode što se tiče uvjeta točnosti utvrđenog energetskog kapaciteta baterije i stanja energije
